dIRE sTRAITS - Last Concert - Live at Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney, Australia, 26th April, 86

Video Overview & Insights

The Last show of 'Brothers in Arms Tour 1985-1986', 26th April, 1986

I wish i could back on time, and see them in concert😢

— @mariaclaudiabaquero9803

This night certainly changed my life, as an 11 year old, falling in love with music through dIRE sTRAITs.

I remember recording this show off the ‘tele’ using my father's Beta machine and using my twin deck cassette recorder tuned to ‘Triple M’ FM Sydney to record the audio.

40 years ago today. I came to that thinking not because I looked at the calendar, but because I remember where I was this day 40 years ago, watching this live in Southland, New Zealand, as a 16-year-old on a stormy night and that it was the same night, 12 hours apart, when Chernobyl blew.

— @fractalnomics

The picture quality is not that great from the digital transfer from the Beta cassette, but the audio is quite good.

I do not own the copyright but wanted to share this experience that I've had tucked away for many years.

Great Concert…❤

God. Soundtrack of my life Knopfler is. Oddly sad watching this now. What the world and music has become. What an incredibly distant - and better - time that was. Time machine please

Magical night. I wasn’t there (from Holland) but this band was my first CD. 45 Now and they never bore me. Magical all the time. Eyes closed and listen.
PS. Seems like he is using another Les Paul on BIA.

— @jaccoderuiter7772

01:14:43 Walk of Life

01:22:50 Two Young Lovers

Damn, I love the Alchemy version of Sultans best but Mark's playing on Sultans at this show was absolutely notnod thia earth! And he seems so casual about it!! The only reason I wouldn't rank this performance higher is I wish I could throw that saxophone into the ocean. I don't know why they added a saxophone. It absolutely ruins the song, anything that plays over a Mark Knopfler solo should be illegal.

— @lillieclare

01:30:31 Money for Nothing

01:38:33 Tunnel of Love

The only other band that sort of reminds me of Dire Straits, or vice versa, is Jethro Tull. Both bands are kind of underrated, but both are really better than just about anybody you'll ever see. The flute really adds a lot to music. It's unfortunate that a lot of people don't really seem to get that. But then after you see them live, that's when you get it. Those are my two favorite bands.

— @williambaldridge1203

01:49:58 Brothers in Arms

01:58:00 Solid Rock

I’ll never forget watching them and Steve Miller at the Forum in Los Angeles. I had experienced David Gilmore, Eddie Van Halen, Slash and several other inspiring guitarists but when I heard Mark Knopfler’s 🎸 in person it left an enormous impact on my ear for greatness!! Truly one of a kind pure talent and originality that I love to this day!!!! Thank you to all these YouTube channels that helping keep this wonderful music live on through the generations.
Hello future 👋🏻,,,, I was born in Southern California in 1974 and let it be known that I had the best parents a kid could ever have and grow up to have a great career as a crane operator that provided for his family and two kids. The 80’s and 90’s were so much fun,,, I don’t think the fun we had could ever be duplicated!! Not to mention the variety of talented musicians and bands throughout all genres!!
Forever Dire Straights 👍🏻

I recorded it from MMM with a stereo decoder onto cassette tape.
The first part had a crackling noise in one channel, eventually it faded into mono and back into stereo with the crackle gone !
(I recorded it in Melbourne)

Just watched this video today. I've been a Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler fan since their early days. I still remember hearing/seeing "Money for Nothing" during the early days of MTV and seeing them on Live Aid. They are in my top 10 of all time! I can listen to them anytime. Anywhere.
